For my birthday, I received some wonderful artsy gifts, one of which was In The Garden of My Dreams by Nathalie Lete, from my husband. I took a picture of the book on my work table, and only when I downloaded the photo I noticed the hand on the right, a collage piece I had earlier cut out from a magazine. Don’t you love little surprises like this?
I love the book, and I love that my husband explained he had chosen it because “it looks like an art journal”!
Nathalie Lete is a French artist who works in several mediums, she does ceramics and textile art, and this is a book of her paintings and drawings.
Her work is naive, and tells many stories.
I noticed many birds and flowers, and lots of color.
As well as fairy tales and childhood stories
And dolls, lots of dolls!
Her paintings are very colorful and vivid.
They make me feel like I’m diving into magical worlds.
Just like Alice.
I like her naive, imperfect drawings, where not everything in the exact correct proportion.
And I love the memories they conjure.
I read some interviews with her, and she says she’s inspired by her travels around the world, as well as vintage toys.
Nathalie is a well-known artist who has already worked with large companies who sell her designs, Anthropologie, for example. You could find plates and clothing and bags and rugs with her colorful designs on them.
At the end of the book I found these really cute sticker pages.
And a promise, that maybe the book is over, but her dreams are not.
I love being inspired by books and other people’s art, and this was a perfect gift for me, I hope you enjoyed peeking into the book, and found it as inspiring as I.
